This was a combined camp between Paradise Point and Canungra, with both the Scouts and Cub Scouts present. The two programs however were completely separate, so firstly the Scouts:

Scouts

This weekend was primarily aimed at completing the nights under canvas and the hiking element of the Pioneer level. The Scouts had planned out their hike on a previous evening, so it was simply time to erect their tents and complete the tasks they had set.

The Scouts are expected to put up their own tents, cook their own food, plan activities and of course cleanup after themselves!

Their main hike was as follows, though note the tracking below was started 1.5-2km in to the hike:

Relive ‘Scouts Burleigh hike’

It may take a few moments for the above to load.

After the main hike the Scouts returned to camp, and in the evening took another short hike down to the beach and along the shore. On the Sunday they again hiked down to the beach, so a lot of walking over the weekend for sure!

Cub Scouts

The Cub Scouts were having it easy this camp as we had no tents to erect, just a dormitory to keep clean. As the camp is located within a residential area we had some noise curfews to obey, as such during the evening and mornings we were confined indoors where we played a lot of ‘mad-libs’ and drawing games. The end result of the camp was to be several parts of the Animals and Birds badge completed, and the rest we will be completing on our first night back at the den in November.

Saturday morning we had an early start with a hike to David Fleay’s, here we had some free time to see the presentations and walk around the park before meeting up with our Ranger for a special talk and a guided tour around the park.

During our time with the Ranger we got to see up close two park inhabitants:

Whilst at the park we found out there was a different way back to the camp, through the reservation area rather than along the roads. So we took the path less travelled and had a great walk back:

You can follow our hike below, the battery on the tracker cut out a few KM before we got back to camp.

Relive ‘Walk To David Fleay’

Obviously everyone was super tired after this long day, but there was still enough energy to play some games and enjoy some quiet time beside the camp fire before bed. We played some team games as well as ‘Sharks’ before the Cub Scouts started their own game of Weeds.

The final morning we played a game about native birds to Queensland, and then a few outdoor games before a hike down to the beach. Here everyone had a play in the sand, and then sat in the park for morning tea.

Once back to camp it was time to tidy up, have some lunch and get ready for going home!
