We started the week with a game, which was ‘Scouts choice’, or perhaps in this case better labelled as ‘can’t make a choice’ though they did get around to something in the end!

We then spent 20 minutes going over Scout Craft knots, with the older Scouts showing those going up and the new starts how to tie:

  • reef knot
  • clove hitch
  • sheet bend
  • rolling hitch

If you need a refreshed you can check out this post from earlier in the year.

Then it was time for the main event, Robot Wars. The Scouts split up in to 4 groups, with 2 groups working on the robots while the other two built solar powered models. Next week we will switch over and the robots will be completed and another set of solar models built, we will then have the battles!

Creating the Robots:

The two groups got to the exact same spot each, and had built the entire bottom half of the robot with its wheels, motors, body and mechanisms. Next week the arms, more motors, gearing and the head will be built by the other group.

Building the Solar Models:

We didn’t have enough light to power the models well on the night, having more than 50% of the hall lights still broken from last weeks storm did not help! We will bring in a big torch next week to try and get them going. However they all worked well when connected to a battery so we know its only a lack of light that stopped the models from going this week.
