After parade the Scouts headed outside for a quick game. They were paired up randomly and one person blindfolded, their partner then had to guide them down to the other end of the field and back. Oh and they were not allowed to touch their partner or use any words in English…

Back inside we got the spars out and practised the prussick square lashing for synthetic rope, a knot we have only covered once before with most of the Scouts so there were some good efforts tonight.

We also introduced the surgeons knot rather than the reef knot to finish it off.

The next game also required blindfolds, this time one each. Once blindfolded each Scout was given a balloon, they then had 2 minutes to inflate the balloon as large as they could. At the end of the 2 minutes that had to let go of their balloon, the largest one once let go was the winner. Balloons which popped were not replaced.

We had a clear winner in the newest member of the group, a few others might need to learn how to tie off a balloon and we only had one pop.

Lastly for the night we got out the dome tents and put them up outside to check they were all in good condition and had all the required parts. This was also the first time 4 members had put up the dome tents, previously we used Queensland style tents. Once they were up it was of course time to learn how to pack them away again!

A good exercise and quite a few lessons learned, much better to learn them now than on the night of camp!
