We only have a few things left to complete from the Campcraft section, though we will not get it fully completed until the next group camp in November. However as always we started the night with a game, a Scout favourite Pool Noodle Marco Polo. The ‘it’ Scout was given 2 blindfolds, as somehow they always manage to see out of just 1, and a pool noodle. Their job was to call out “Marco” to which the others called back “Polo”, with the ‘it’ Scout using the sound to locate the others and try and hit them with the pool noodle.

This was followed by a presentation by one of our Scouts about differences between Australia, Cambodia, Uganda and India. Areas such as population, healthcare, obesity, literacy and trade were covered. It was very interesting to see how the 4 countries differed in trade, with Australia relying on natural resources, Cambodia and Uganda on products they have grown or farmed and India on processing raw materials from other countries.

This was the final part of the Cultural Heritage badge, the other parts being completed at The Happy Chef Thai Cooking School in Thailand during the last school holidays.

Yummy!

With the talk completed we moved on to what was going to be a quick revision of the knots everyone was asked to practise/learn over the last week. Unfortunately as only 2 had done this we spent far more on this that planned, which resulted in losing one of the 3 games planned for the night.

Knots do require practice, however it was great to see that ‘eureka’ moment when somebody managed to do the one handed bowline for the first time. If you all practice them a few times a week every single knot will become second nature to you and make these parts of the evening pass in just a few minutes.

The Scouts then broke up in to groups to plan a menu for a weekend camp, they needed to produce a menu which was healthy and contained a dinner with 2 courses. After deciding on their menu they also had to create a list of items they would need to purchase to create their menu. We will be carrying on with this next week, in particular we look forward to hearing how one group will be making apple crumble without any apples or products to make the crumble with, along with hot dogs with no sausages. Perhaps a few revisions will be needed here and there.

The last game of the night was Clothes Peg Face Challenge, the Scouts had 2 minutes to attach as many clothes pegs to their face as possible, they were not counted if attached to hair. Two Scouts ended up with none, with the pegs refusing to stay on, whilst from the others we are not too sure who the winner is!

Next week we will be completing the camp menus, and perhaps will fit in the game we could not play this week.
