With the end of the school term approaching a large number of our Scouts were away tonight, leaving us with a patrol of two. As such we left completing our camp menus until next term and instead sat down for a chat.

First on the agenda we spent some time talking about hikes, we discussed the plans for the Pioneer hike which will take place either on the next camp or on a weekend next term. We also then had a chat about the explorer level hike, as one Scout is at the stage where they are ready to start planning this hike whilst the other will be in that position very soon. We went through the various requirements of the hike, and the anticipated timelines for submitting ideas and plans, then getting approvals, execution and what happens after a hike. There is a lot of work and while leaders are available to help the brunt of the work for a hike of this level is down to the Scout to produce themselves. So the ball is really in your court on this one!

We also then had a chat about the Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS) and Special Interest Areas (SIA) from the New Youth Program (NYP). This is something we will be covering more and more, however we hope you could see that there was nothing to worry about and for now you can stay on your existing pathways anyway if you wish.

That’s all for this term, we will see you all back on Tuesday the 8th October.
