After 4 weeks of Moon program work it was time to get back to basics with a little boomerang work this week. Breaking with convention we started the night with a presentation by two of our Gold Boomerang Cub Scouts on bullying.
We then played Jungle Story, something about half had played before. Each Cub Scout was given the name of a character from the Jungle Book and a short story was read out, any time their game name was called out they had to run to the end of the hall and back. While it may be a short story this game always gets everyone tired!
Suitably exhausted we all sat down to have a quick look over our pack code:
This code was created by the Cub Scouts earlier in the year, and they have the chance to add things they think will help the group.
Suitably rested we had a quick game of Shere Khan is hunting, with crosses on the floor representing bushes one Cub Scout was Shere Khan and the rest for deer grazing out in the open. The deer had to hide behind the bushes where they were safe, but with one less bush than there were deer one was always out in the open to be hunted. Could they get to another bush before Shere Khan caught them?
We followed this by breaking up in to our Boomerang groups”
Bronze – Talked about the main characters in the Jungle Books and learnt the story of how Mowgli came to be in the jungle.
Silver – Learnt about Baloo and Bagheera, then read through the story of Rikki Tikki Tavi and discussed what the story teaches us. We also got to break out a Rikki Tikki Tavi game made by a previous Cub Scout for her Grey Wolf badge last year
Gold – Discussed how the laws and teachings in The Jungle Books are part of our every day lives.
Our last game of the night was White Hood, one Cub Scout acted as a snake and sat inside a hoop with a number of treasures around them. They were then blindfolded whilst the other Cub Scouts crept up on them to try and take the treasure. If the snake touched them they died, but if they could get the treasure away from the snakes den without being caught they won.
We will play the game again next term and those that did not get to be the snake will get a turn.
