The final week of the Moon program had us covering Apollo 16 & 17, but first a game. The Cub Scouts worked in pairs within their Six to carry another Cub Scout to the moon and back, well the end of the hall.

We followed the game with the nights main activities:

Apollo 16

Charles Duke of Apollo 16 left behind a photo of his family along with a message and a commemorative medal on the moon. The Cub Scouts has to think of a message and a picture they would like to leave behind, this was then added to a photo of their Six and locked away in a time capsule to be opened in 2 years time!

Apollo 17

Apollo 17 was the first, and last, time a trained geologist was sent to the moon. The Cub Scouts mission was to go outside the Lunar Module and on to the surface of the moon to recover a couple of rocks each. They had to wear their space gloves, which made collecting the rocks a little trickier. Once safely back in the Lunar module they had to say why they picked the rocks they did.

Once the rocks were collected and the time capsule taped shut we played Avoid the Landing Module. The Cub Scouts broke in to their Six’s with one team being Astronauts and the other the landing module. The astronauts got in to groups of 2 or 3 holding hands, while the landing module stood in a circle around them. On go the landing module had to roll a ball and try and hit the astronauts, if anybody was hit that entire group was out.

With the end of the program in site we sat and had a chat about what everyone enjoyed the most, and how we can all be considerate and friendly to each other.

This left us with just enough time for one last game, Oxygen Tank Relay. The Cub Scouts were trapped on an alien world and their oxygen was running out! To get more they had to run down to the liquid oxygen contained and fill their tanks up, before running back and pouring it in to the space stations supply tank. At the end of 3 minutes the team with the most liquid oxygen were the winners:

We hope everyone enjoyed the 4 weeks we have spent on this program, on Saturday we will be making a visit up to Brisbane to see the NASA exhibition!
