After a slightly delayed start, the active Six needs to arrive at 18:20 to get the flags ready, we jumped in to a warm up game of Chopstick Relay. The Cub Scouts split in to their groups, with one half of each group at each end of the hall. They then had to carry a ping pong ball from one end of the hall to the other, using chop sticks. They could hold the ball in the sticks or just balance it, the choice was theirs to make. We ran the game a second time using teaspoons, but surprisingly most managed very well with the chop sticks.

A simple game, but a lot of fun for sure.

This was followed by a little Boomerang work, with the Cub Scouts broken up in to their Bronze, Silver and Gold groups with each group looking at the following:

Bronze:

  • How and why we keep our hands and nails clean?
  • When should you wash your hands?
  • Show how to look after your teeth

Silver:

  1. How and why should we keep our feet in good condition?
  2. Why is sleep important?
  3. Discuss the important of a balanced diet

Gold:

The Golds used this time to organise a future game that will demonstrate how Cub Scouts look after each other and don’t bully.

By now the Cub Scouts were looking a bit rested, so time to tire them out a bit! So we played a game where each Cub Scout was given the name of a food product and a story was told, each time their food type was mentioned they needed to run down the hall and find a card on the floor which showed their food type. The story didn’t stop for them so they had to be fast and keep running back and forth. Everyone enjoyed it so much we changed foods and played again, everyone was exhausted after the second time!

Luckily the next activity involved sitting down and listening whilst Eagle demonstrated the contents of a basic first aid kit, and we got to have a peak at a more advanced once too.

Now we knew what all these items in the kit were for we played a memory game based on them. The Cub Scouts were shown a table which contained a number of first aid items, they had a minute to study the table before it was covered up and they had to write down what they could remember.

Everybody remembered over half the items, and a few people got almost all.

Just enough time was left for everyone to get neat and tidy for final parade and a couple of 1 year membership badges to be handed out.
