Tonight was not only the first time in a few months the Cub Scouts were back in our usual hall but it was also the 160th Birthday of our home state Queensland, we certainly didn’t need any more of an excuse to have a bit of a party!

We started the night with a quick history of how the game Hockey came to Australia, and then a few rounds of our own version. The Cub Scouts lined up in their Sixes and were each given a number, when their number was called out they had to run to the centre of the hall and pick up a pool noodle, the hockey stick, and try and score a goal in the opponents end. After everybody had a go we ran the game again but with 2 from each team playing.

Suitable out of breath we all sat down for a chat about the history of Queensland, and a look at our state emblems.

Then on to the quiz, around the hall were lots of postcards and posters highligting various events and fact about Queensland, the Cub Scouts had to use this information to complete a questionnaire based on the last 160 years. During this they each also took it in turn to make a birthday badge they could take home.

Once everyone had made their badge it was game time again, this time we learnt about Bowls and played our own version. A sponge ball was used as the Jack (white ball) and each Cub Scout took it in turns to try and roll a tennis ball in their Six colours as close to the Jack as possible. It seems we may have some expert players in the Pack, as knocking out the opponents ball to snatch a win for your own team was the winning theme in all 3 games we played.

With all the evenings games over it was time to celebrate in style:

While the cake was being cut in to slices we had time for final parade before home.
