Another great night with the Cub Scouts with lots of games, which were both fun and informative.

We started the night with a quick warm up game, “Which Will Help”. Three corners of the room were labelled ‘Police’, ‘Ambulance’ and ‘Fire’. Then a series of emergencies were read out and the Cub Scouts had to run to the corner they thought would help most with the situation.

They then broke up in to small groups to discuss ‘Accidents at Home’. Each group was given a sheet of paper with various locations around the home on it, they then needed to think up various dangers they may face in each area. After 5 minutes everybody came together to discuss there ideas.

Excellent ideas were given by each group, and only a few things missed out which we covered in our discussion.

Then it was time for ‘Safety Ladder’, which turned in to a very intense battle between the two sixes and an extremely fun game to play! A ladder was marked out with tape on the floor and each six given a set of cards which represented ‘good’ and ‘bad’ situations. They took it in turns to read out their cards and decide if the situation was good or bad, if it was good they moved a counter up one rung on the ladder, if bad they moved it down again. First six to reach the end won. The game started slow, but they soon learnt the faster they got through each question the faster they could win, so they got faster and faster!

Then time for a few minutes rest, while we discussed Bush Safety. Eagle presented the pack with a series of cards and the Cub Scouts had to decide if its something they should or should not do.

These ideas were then re-inforced with our final game, ‘Bush Safety Bingo’. We split up in to two groups and each person was given a bingo sheet on which were listed things you should and should not do. These activities were then randomly read out and if the Cub Scout had the one being read out they crossed it off. Get a row of ‘Don’t do’ activities and you lost, get a row of things ‘to do’ and you won.

A great night for sure!
