We started this week with a re-run of a game we played last week, about which emergency service you would call for various incidents. We did however add in another category, not an emergency, so the Cub Scouts could get an understanding that some issues while important are not emergencies and don’t require an instant response from the Police, Ambulance or Fire Brigade. It was a good fun game, and while they all had fun at some of the more silly emergencies we slipped in it was great that got to understand how important it is to keep 000 lines clear for only genuine calls.
After this one of our Sixers ran a game that he had invented, this was part of his Grey Wolf badge. The game was a mixture of Red Light/Green Light and Whats The Time Mr Wolf, but based on Jungle Book characters at the same time. The Cub Scouts had to advance on Shere Kahn based upon the instructions that were called out, if they made it passed the hungry tiger then they were safe, however Shere Kahn could yell our and attack at any time.
Everyone had so much fun that I am sure we will be playing this, and variation of it, on many more nights in the future.
We then moved on to a classic game of Lost Shoe Relay. The Cubs Scouts all took off their shoes and put them in a pile at the end of the hall, a few extra shoes were added in for good measure. They then lined up at the other end of the hall in their Sixes and took it in turn to run in a relay down to the pile of shoes, locate their own pair and put them back on… with the laces properly tied of course! We ran the game a second time with the lights down to make it extra fun, and one or two shoes may have been secretly hidden to slow down the older Cub Scouts.
The last game of the night was Message Relay, which is a variation of Chinese Whispers. The Cub Scouts were put in two lines along the hall, the first in each line was given the details of an emergency and they had to pass this on to the next Cub Scout who in turn passed it on to the next until the last person was reached. They then repeated what they had been told, which turned out to be very different to the original messages. The details consisted of what sort of incident it was, the time and the address. The purpose being to show how its important to be able to remember information and pass it on to an responsible adult in an accurate and timely way.

With the games over there were just a few minutes left to talk about the upcoming camp at Canungra, a post about how that weekend will be up in the next week or so!
