First night back for the Cub Scouts, and true to form it was a boisterous night! Just like with our Scouts we are down at Runaway Bay Comunity Hall for a few weeks, but we also have a reduced amount of time so we are having to run a well organised night to get through everything.
This week it was games, followed by games… oh and then a few more games. Amazingly some Boomerang work was snuck in with the games, so well hidden I am not sure any of the Cubs even noticed they were doing it.
We started the night with a story about how Mowgli came to live in the jungle, and then straight in to our first game “Jungle Story’. Each Cub Scout was given the role of a character from the story, whenever their name was mentioned they had to run across the width of the hall. They soon learnt that our new hall is quite a bit bigger than our usual one!
Afterwards we heard about Shere Khan, and how he would go out hunting. This was followed by a hunting game, one player was Shere Khan while all the others were his prey. On the floor bushes were marked out, which were a safe place, but one less bush than their were prey. It was Shere Khan’s job to hunt down his prey before they could make it to the safety of the bush. After a few rounds we added in a second tiger, making life much harder for the prey!
Next we learnt about how when the Wolves went hunting one would always stay behind with Mowgli, the Cub Scouts then re-enacted this as they silently went out in to the hall hunting for toy animals.
Finally we learnt about Bagheera, the panther who taught Mowgli how to silently move through the jungle. The Cub Scouts then played Bagheera’s price, where they had to try and silently creep up on a sleeping panther without being heard and take away his juicy bone.
It was a great night for sure, and we are pretty sure there were one or two tired Cub Scouts going home that evening!
