We are still carrying on with the badge work we can complete in our temporary hall, making the most of the situation.
We started the night with a simple game of Ping Pong Ball Madness, each scout had a corner and a container and had the aim to put the most balls 1 by 1 in to their container. They could take from the center or from each other, though they could not defend their own. Anybody cheating had to start again, and as such all the boys lost by default.
After this warm up game the scouts split in to pairs, with the task of looking around the hall for dangers and verifying safety features. They also needed to take note of anything that was broken, they came up with:
One team did eventually notice the evacuation signs, which listed all the safety features of the hall. Hopefully next time this will be one of the first things checked for.
We moved on to two different activities for the Explorer and Pioneer levels. The Explorers researched the consequences of bullying, both mental and physical, while the Pioneers looked in to activities and services available locally for young people of Scout age.
Some good points were made by all here.
With camp coming up this weekend we also had a discussion about hygiene and personal care on camp. The pitching and striking of tents will be covered over the weekend.
With so much work done it was time for some fun, Card Tower building. Each Scout got a pack of cards and had 5 minutes to build the highest tower they could, this proved to be very hard as the cards were really slippy!
We ended up with two winners, one for the actual highest tower…1 layer and 1 cross layer, and another ‘technical’ victory by building the tower on a chair rather than the ground… this being higher.
Don’t forget all Scouts need to pack their own bags for camp this weekend!
