Carrying on with the Citizenship badge work while we are in our backup hall this week the Scouts were presented with a number of emergency situations to cope with, drowning in a lake, broken arms and fractured legs. After a few early deaths to start with they soon got the hang of things and were able to put to work their knowledge of DRSABCD & COWS, getting in to the recovery position and fixing up with splints and dressings.
They also demonstrated making a stretcher with blankets and poles, as well as showing different ways to carry a person using just your hands.
They then spent 5 minutes on their own to think up ideas for the Group code, once everyone had a list a group discussion took place about which ideas were to be implemented. A much more successful attempt this week than last and everyone made sensible suggestions. The agreed upon code will be printed up for everyone to sign up to in the future.
It was then time for the game everyone had been waiting for… The Chocolate Game.
A block of chocolate was set on a table at one end of the hall. Scouts then took turns rolling two dice. When a 6 was rolled, the Scout who rolled it ran to the table where the chocolate was, put on the hat, scarf and gloves and then begins cutting a single piece of chocolate from the block using a knife and fork. Once a single piece was cut it could be eaten. Once the piece was eaten the Scout could begin cutting a second piece, and so on until such time as a new Scout rolls a 6 or the chocolate runs out. A game of luck for sure, or as in the case of two Scouts no luck at all!
At the end of the game everyone got a bit of chocolate from what was left, and those that had so little luck perhaps got a little extra.
