Tonight we lost 2 Cub Scouts, but don’t be sad as we gained 3 Scouts! More on that at the end of the post.
We started the night with a Grey Wold presentation, an event important enough to get its own post.
We ran a combined night with the Cubs Scouts and Scouts, so for the first game of Lava everyone was split up in to 3 teams and had to make their way over to the other side of the hall using chairs. Each team had 1 less chair than they had members and a maximum of two people were allowed on a chair. Things started well, but soon descended in to chaos, especially as two teams slowly edged closer to each other.
The second game of the night had the group split in to two and a large number of cups placed all around the hall. Each team was designated either cup up or down and had two minutes to turn as many cups over so they faced the right way for their team… oh and to add to the challenge the lights were turned off.
As half of one team forgot which way they were supposed to be turning the game ended with a very clear winner!
The last game of the night, and indeed the term, was the Candle Game. Everyone was split up in to the 3 groups used in the first game and given a cork attached to some string and a peg. They had to attach the peg of the back of their shorts and run to the other end of the hall. Once there they needed to put out a candle using the cork on the string, without using their hands. Once extinguished they had to relight the candle and run back to the next player. An adult was on hand at each candle to explain the safe use of matches where needed.
They soon learnt it was far more difficult that it looked!
With the end of the evening approaching it was time to say goodbye to our 2 oldest Cub Scouts as they received their linking badges:
Then a quick ceremony to invest a new Scout to our group:
Before a final going up ceremony, the two Cub Scouts got to say a farewell to their friends and then re-affirmed their promises and got their first Scout badges.
Don’t worry, despite going up to Scouts you will still see your Cub Scout friends often through our group events.
That is all for this term, we start next term with the Anzac Day March and a change of venue for a few weeks while our hall is renovated. There will be an email about all this over the holidays.
For now please everyone enjoy the Easter break.
