With threatening skys overheard a number of the Cubs Scouts and Scouts made their way to Southport Coast Guard for a morning of fun, learning and sausages!

With a break in the weather the first order of the day was a trip out on the big yellow boat! Most of the Cubs and Scouts decided this was a great opportunity to play the game ‘who can get the wettest’, perhaps forgetting that they would be remaining in these clothes for the rest of the morning. Still it was great fun and we were taken on quite a trip up as far as Runaway Bay Marina and part way out of the seaway itself.

Upon returning we were given an informative presentation on what the Coast Guard do on a daily basis, a tour around their other vessels and a sneaky peak up at the radio room. We even got to listen in on a couple of information broadcasts made over the radio to the general public.

It was all very interesting, but by now everybody was hungry! Luckily Mrs Eagle had cooked up enough sausages for everyone to have 1..2… and I dare say a couple had 3 each! They must have been good because it seems not a single photo of the sausage sizzle was made as everyone was too busy munching!

Again we must offer a huge thanks to Southport Coast Guard, just like Scouts they are a volunteer organisation staffed with people who have a passion for what they do. We are extremely privileged to have been given the chance to get a sneak peak in to their daily activities keeping everyone say out on the waterways.
