What a busy night, with three new people coming along to have a go this week it turned out to be a great night!

After parade the Cub Scouts started the evening with a game which helped them to learn the points of the compass. Each corner of the hall was labelled North, NE, East, SE, South, SW, West, NW and North. When a point was called all the cubs had to run there. After a few tries we removed the labels so they had to work from memory alone!

After that we had a group chat about how a compass works, and the difference between true, grid and magnetic north.

Then the Gold Boomerang Cubs went outside with Eagle to lay out a trail for the Silver and Bronze Cubs. While they were doing this the rest got to make their own compass! You can see one of them in the picture at the top of the page.

Yes they all pointed North too!

Once the Gold Boomerang Cubs were back the rest split up in to two group.

  • Activity 1 – Following the give directions of N, E, S and West on a graph paper they got to a draw an unknown animal..
  • Activity 2 – Using a compass follow the trail set outside by the Gold Boomerangs. This was a lot of fun for everyone, as most had never had a change to use a real compass to follow directions before. Thankfully we found our way back to the Scout Hall again!!!

Everyone did a fantastic job, well done!
